A key market of Gc is young people who have grown up with fashion

The Swiss watch brand Gc, a sister marque of Guess, sees great potential in Asia and forecasts a sales contribution surpassing that of Europe and North America by 2017.

The ongoing economic crisis in Europe has forced many brands including Gc to shift their focus to Asia.

Sequel AG, the maker and distributor of Gc watches, said the biggest Asian market for Gc is Indonesia, which contributes up to 9% of total sales volume.

Sales are split about evenly between the three key markets of Europe, North America and the Middle East/Asia, but the company expects the Middle East/Asia to surpass the others in the next five years.

Chief executive Cindy Livingston said the market driver will be China.

"China's market is fast-growing and expected to outpace Indonesia in the near future thanks to its economic growth and large population," she said.

Apart from business expansion, Gc marketing will separate entirely from Guess next year.

"Moments of Smart Luxury Captured by Gc" is a key promotion, focusing on emerging creative personalities around the world.

Since the campaign began at the Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Fair 2011 in Switzerland, the photographic concept has been rolled out in Paris, London, Tokyo and Singapore.

By year-end, it will have travelled to 25 countries including Thailand.

All these images will be brought together at Baselworld 2013 in a global exhibition and book showcasing the world of Gc Smart Luxury.

Sequel AG distributes Gc watches in 70 countries through a network of 60 distributors and 5,000 retail stores including Gc boutiques.
