Procurator Fiscal Depute Tessa Bradley said: "All of the jewellery belonged to his grandmother, with whom he was staying at the time.

"Some items were recovered from pawnbrokers and second-hand shops but most haven't.

"He stated during interview that he had taken the items to fund his addiction to heroin and cocaine.

"According to the reporting officer he showed little remorse. It goes without saying that this was extremely distressing for his grandmother."

The court was also told that Eaton's grandmother no longer has any contact with him.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond deferred sentence for eight weeks to allow for a Drug Testing and Treatment assessment to be carried out.
