Two hope to replace longtime county judge

A career prosecutor and career public defender seek to replace a mainstay on the Marion County bench: Judge John Futch.

Futch has decided to retire after 24 years on the bench and a 40-year career in law.

Assistant State Attorney Tommy Thompson and Assistant Public Defender LeAnn Mackey Barnes hope they can live up to Futch's firm-but-fair reputation on the bench.

The attorneys think they can bring their own flair, but still hold onto Futch's core values.

The two candidates are vying for what's known as the Group 3 county judge seat.Bonding is an approach toroyaloakthat lasts for a shorter period of time in comparison to sew-in weave. The race will be on the Aug. 14 primary ballot.

Both attorneys have practiced and were nurtured in Futch's courtroom; that gave them plenty of trial experience. They have law degrees from the University of Florida and a vested interest in the Marion County community.

Barnes has never been a prosecutor. For much of her career, spanning more than 10 years, she has practiced criminal defense.omegawatchesand you can buy a Omega watch or compare luxury Omega watches.

Thompson has been a prosecutor at the State Attorney's Office for more than eight years and has never been a full-time criminal defense attorney.
