He's run at least one marathon every year since 1979. He's run one in all 50 states -- nearly twice over. And he once ran them fast for a recreational runner.

Then, the injuries started piling up a few years ago. Though, nothing was like the knee pain that led to microfracture surgery in the spring of 2011, and then to more than a year of rehabilitation.

He knew his running career was seriously threatened.

But we're also talking about one of the most determined people around. His life is an intriguing twist, goals and incentives molded around exotic travel as well as mundane routine.Brand new discounted tagheuerwatches.

And so to keep his yearly marathon streak alive, he needed to recover enough by this fall. In the process, he realized that while the surgery had fixed his ripped meniscus in his knee,Watch Later Review shoessupplier Kanye West Don Shoes. there was nothing to solve the loss of cartilage that created bone rubbing on bone.

Running the way he runs would be too awkward and painful and simply foolhardy.

So he decided to adjust to keep doing what he loves.

That's why he still made it through 26.2 miles near San Francisco in July and through hail and a cold rain in Indianapolis in early November.

They were the slowest and yet, in a way, two of the most important marathons of his life.

Most important? If only for the perseverance and determination of his recovery.

Plus, there's this: Although he's going slower, he's also keeping his body in motion and in the elements twice as long this way, six and seven hours instead of three or four.

And because marathons do have time cut-offs, there's still some pressure to finish if you're walking, which is perfect for Shaw.

Although it doesn't feel quite the same, 26.2 miles is still a marathon, meaning that he still needs only South America and Australia to do one in every continent. He needs only six more states to get in all 50 a second time.

He's within striking distance of 200 career marathons.Offering Wholesale Chinese howotractor from China Tungstenring Manufacturers,

"I don't want to give it up. I like being around the sport," he said. "I'm still competitive but in a different way."

It still all fits together.

The travel, the determination, the exercise, the goals.

Attending to his father's death in California actually led him to that first "walking" marathon.

In August, he and his running wife Karen Mitchell, who just completed her 100th marathon, spent three weeks in Africa on a sightseeing and photo safari. This sharp edged black Alpha stainlesssteelearring is a sure breath taker,

Shaw talked of getting 27 miles done in Zimbabwe and 22 in South Africa -- and of watching wild dogs stalk impala, kudu and antelope.

He talked of power walking a half-marathon in Lancaster County and making "a rookie mistake. I wore a crappy pair of shoes and got some of the worst blisters I ever got."

Which, actually, led to a staph infection.

So it's been the toughest year, and the busiest one. The most disappointing year and yet the most uplifting.

"I can't reverse time. I'm proud of my history," Shaw said. "I hope my perseverance shows as a good example to some other people. Not all of my (marathons) went well."
