Principal John Martinez is grateful to the West

Scores of lucky students from Villacorta Elementary School in La Puente were recently treated to a brand new pair of shoes and socks at the Payless shoe store in the Westfield West Covina mall.

On Dec. 12, more than 150 students got to pick out a pair of shoes they liked, and that would be suitable for school, at no cost, thanks to the West Covina Sunrise Rotary Club.

For a few morning hours, the students, escorted by parents,The complete line of iwcwatchesshop can be found at Essential-Watches. teachers, policemen and other rotary volunteers, got to travel through the store and pick out their shoes of choice.

Santa Claus was also on hand to say hello and spread some Christmas cheer.

"I saw the event through the eyes of Santa Claus," said Rotary President Don Fernald, thousands of omegawatch that compliments your Style. whose favorite part was the children's excitement. "Their smiles - they thanked us. Some of them, I'd say this is the first time they've ever had a brand new pair of shoes, they're always used to getting hand-me-downs."

The Rotary Club raised funds for the free shoes event with a "Day at the Theater" fundraiser. Sherry Kinson, owner of the Grove Theater in Upland, offered discounted tickets for a screening of "Fiddler on the Roof" and included an outside hot dog lunch with the price of the ticket.

All proceeds from the tickets went to the shoes event for the kids at Villacorta. The 152 students were transported to the mall via buses provided by the Rowland Unified School District. Fernald's family also donated money to the school to offset the transportation costs.womens sandals and womens boots including fashionsandals and designer.favorite dsquaredshoes of some of the world's top athletes and celebrities in a new collection designed.

"I just liked seeing the smile on their faces," said Fernald, "when they're sitting out there showing the shoes to their friends, the vice principal, the principal and the moms that came to help."

The students were grateful and were sure to show it.

"Sylvia Cadena, the learning director said to us, `When you guys get done, come outside, they want to say something to you,' so she counted down and they all yelled thank you. There were about 80 kids yelling thank you, so that was pretty awesome, too."

Principal John Martinez is grateful to the West Covina Sunrise Rotary Club for the event and was happy to see the kids so excited.

"Oh, they were overjoyed,Fremont Bank is the proud title sponsor of the Fremont bankcycling Team." he said. "This is a wonderful event, this is the second year we got picked. Santa was there, he went by every child and talked with them, so they were pretty excited about that as well. The kids were asking `Is that the real Santa?' `Absolutely it's the real Santa,' I said. Today he is the real Santa."

Martinez said the parents he spoke with were also thankful. The event was staffed with volunteers including the Rotary.
