when he flashed his silver pistol

The Logan County Board of Zoning Appeals Tuesday night tabled its ruling on a proposed limestone quarry between Lincoln and Broadwell to give opposing forces time to reach a common ground.

The board is considering the contested petition of local attorney Douglas Muck and his sister, Kaellyn Arch, who want the county to rezone a patch of land just west of Interstate 55 near the intersection of 1400th Street and 900th Avenue to make way for Hanson Materials Service to lease the land and extract limestone.

The project would mean 18 local jobs, and millions of dollars spent and saved in Logan County, according to officials.

“This issue here has caused me more lack of sleep than any other issue before,” said board chairman Doug Thompson.

The board planned to make a ruling on Tuesday night, but Muck asked for 30 days to connect quarry objectors with Hanson representatives in hopes of designing a formal agreement between the parties before blasting begins.

The board will meet again on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of West Lincoln-Broadwell Elementary.Swarovski rolexwatches are now SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. A recommendation is expected at that time. The Logan County Board, however, will have the final say on the issue.

Logan County Board Member Dave Hepler on Tuesday said he planned to vote in approval of the quarry, despite the recommendation of the zoning board.

“I have seen no evidence that shows why we shouldn’t allow this petition,” he said, adding that the financial benefit for Logan County is simply to great to pass up.

Hepler noted Logan County has set out to be a wind energy center in the Midwest. Officials from a proposed wind farm in western Logan County say the entire project would be jeopardized without affordable limestone for construction.

The zoning board’s decision followed a Monday night meeting in the West Lincoln-Broadwell gymnasium that stretched for more than three hours, and contained some strained testimony and tense moments between the parties.

Blane Olson, who farms and raises livestock near the proposed project, has been one of the most outspoken objectors to the quarry.

He said he isn’t against the existence of the quarry, necessarily, but he wants to make sure his land and family are protected from mining operations.

He, along with other objectors, submitted a list of a dozen concerns related to the quarry hurting their land values and quality of life. Those issues include traffic safety, negative changes in underground water sources, air quality and noise pollution.

No one is calling him Maurice, but Deon Stewart proclaimed himself a gangster of love Wednesday and admitted to a string of Omaha robberies.

In a rambling jailhouse press conference, the 21-year-old Stewart said he committed 14 robberies in four days so he could get his share of the “silver and gold” that he feels is his due.

Stewart said he was surprised by how easily clerks gave up the money when he flashed his silver pistol, and even says some of them might have wanted him to have the cash.

“One night, I just went into every store that I could to get my silver and gold,” Stewart said. “I put a gun to them and told them to give all the money.”

Stewart, who said he never got past 11th grade,Wholesale royaloak,Semi precious agate gemstone beads, said he robbed on behalf of his family and children. He said he has five children by four “baby mamas” and loves each and every one.

Stewart said he wanted to admit his guilt so his children and other young people will learn from his mistakes. He said he plans to return the money and is sorry that he used a gun in the robberies.

“I wouldn't hurt nobody,” he said. “I (had a gun) because of who I was riding with . .Alstyle shoes are the best selling shirt we have, . in case they had a gun. People you ride with can be your enemy some time.”

Omaha police said they were able to identify Stewart because of the “flamboyant'' clothing he wore during the robberies, including a pink hat and red shoes.

Stewart said he wore the colorful clothing because he didn't intend to hide from anyone.
