Boys front up as cartons become fashion statement

It's not often you see a boy with his shirt off standing in the middle of a girls' college, but this was all part of the ploy to encourage students to think about recycling as boxes of newspaper, egg cartons and plastic containers were turned into fashion at Nelson College for Girls yesterday.

Nelson College for Girls students held a Recycle a Boy competition yesterday lunchtime, as part of their celebrations for the school's Enviro Week.

Students were given the challenge of dressing three Nelson College models with a range of recycling materials collected from the school and students' homes.

Year 13 Nelson College student and model Saaben Wouts was dressed as Lady Gaga, with a bra inspired by Madonna.

He said he felt a bit nervous standing in a girls' college with his shirt off.

"I can't say it's something I've done before. I think they're loving it more than me though."

The winner was an outfit entitled "Mr Tumnus", the fawn character from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,Witness came forward juicycouturesuit in Norwich cold case murder. and modelled by year 13 student Quinn Hornblow.

The plastic shirt, with a newspaper skirt and bow, and a spine-trail of egg cartons, birdsnestsupplier women is a very comfortable shoes in the brands shoes series. was inspired by a fusion of "pirate, dinosaur and bunny rabbit" elements, year 13 student Ruby Ash said.

While Lady Gaga had a bit more of an "elegant strut" according to its creator and year 13 student Amy Coulson, Quinn's outfit was declared the winner mainly because it was the only one to stay together when paraded down a makeshift catwalk.

Quinn said it was a bit of fun, and he didn't mind putting himself in the spotlight for a good cause.

"Anything for the environment."

Year 13 student Georgia Burr said the event was put on by the Enviro Action Group, a bunch of students from year 11 to 13 who get together weekly to talk about what the school could do to help the environment.

The aim was to put on a fun lunch activity which would encourage more students to join the group in being environmentally conscious, and inspire them to recover, recycle, and reuse wherever possible, she said.

Year 13 student Maddy Pears said other events held this week included a chalk-art protest against Sealord's "overfishing" of tuna, and photos would be sent to Greenpeace.

A petition against this would also be signed on Wednesday, cheapdunkpremium Running Shoe Flex grooves in the mid and outsole for flexibility . along with a petition against offshore mining and drilling, and students would be bringing in cellphones to recycle and raise funds for Starship Hospital, she said.
