Rideau Centre temporarily kills display of dismembered mannequins

A dismembered, red paint-spattered female mannequin and a chainsaw have been removed from the window display of a Rideau Centre store, pending a meeting with the mall's general manager.

“We're not in the censorship business,” said Cindy VanBuskirk, who said she will decide whether to allow the store to put the Halloween display back up after meeting with staff on Tuesday. “If they're pushing the envelope, I have no problem with that. However, if they're crossing the line into inappropriate, as a responsible landlord, I will address it with them.”

Until Friday evening, Trivium, a store on the first floor of the mall that sells gothic, punk, and medieval-style clothing, had a window display up that was supposed to depict a “crazy mental institution,” according to the assistant manager. The display showed six mannequins — one holding a meat cleaver — dressed in doctor and nurse outfits.

On the far left side of the display, there was a female mannequin's head and torso splattered with red paint in a plastic bag, with a chainsaw placed next to it. On the right side, in another plastic bag, were the mannequin's legs shod in red high heels.Such as previously Nike Air Max, the entire-length Air sole returns away from your newjordans.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the assistant manager — who would not give her name — said she had been asked to take part of the display down. On Saturday, the dismembered mannequin and chainsaw had been replaced with a small coffin.

The assistant manager said she saw nothing offensive about the display.

“Every single person who works here is a female. We, a bunch of females, made the window.you will find perfect shippingshoes to complement your favorite outfit for a night out on the town in our collection. It's not promoting violence against women in any way,” she said. “It's supposed to be a horror story-themed window and that's it.”

The assistant manager said that's no reason to be sensitive about the display. “People get murdered all over the world every day. It doesn't matter. It has nothing to do with what happens in society. We're just trying to have fun,” she said.lovingjeans for sale to men with low price and top quality.

Passersby at the Rideau Centre didn't think it was so fun.

“That's promoting violence, promoting violence against women,” said Jessica Kalinga, a 22-year-old student. “I think the marketing strategy was way off on that one. I don't know if their intent was to put a lot of focus on it so that people would come in and cause a reaction, but I think it was wrong of them to put it up in the first place.”

“It's a little graphic for a mall where there are small children,” said Emily Fawcett, cheapshox Running Shoe Flex grooves in the mid and outsole for flexibility . 20.

VanBuskirk described the owner of Trivium as responsible and conscientious. She said in the 20 years she's worked at the Rideau Centre, this is the first time there has been any hint of controversy about a window display at the shopping centre.

Trivium's assistant manager said she wasn't happy about taking the display down. “We try to do something fun every year for the window, something that's fun for the staff, because it takes a lot of work, and something that our customers enjoy. It was the first time we've ever had a problem,” she said.

Standing outside the Rideau Centre entrance near Trivium on Saturday afternoon, shopper Jennifer Morgan said the store staff have the right to choose whatever display they think will be the most effective advertisement, but wondered what a dismembered mannequin had to do with selling clothes.

“It wasn't just an advertisement saying, ‘Come in and buy our stuff.' They don't sell chainsaws,” she said.
