The search resulted in investigators finding marijuana

A week-long investigation by the Narcotics Division of the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office into a contraband smuggling operation ended with the arrest of a jailer and eight other suspects.

The investigation began when investigators were alerted to the possibility of contraband being smuggled into the jail by listening to recorded telephone calls made from within the jail, said Donnie Saucier, chief investigator.

“Investigators listening to jail phone calls intercepted plans of individuals wanting to smuggle contraband,” Saucier said.

On Saturday, investigators learned that Charlie W. Strahan, 69, of 165 First St., a correctional officer in the jail, was planning on receiving a package containing contraband to smuggle to inmates.

“Through investigation, investigators learned that Strahan was set to meet a Briana Lee, 18, of 02 R Fore Lane, at a public location in Carriere,” Saucier said.

Surveillance was set up at the location and Lee was observed actually meeting another female at the scene.

Lakisha Brown, 35, of 4715 Terrington Ct., Sugarland, Texas, was observed sitting in a vehicle with Lee, and the two appeared to be waiting on someone, said Saucier.

“At approximately 6 p.m. a vehicle pulled up, driven by Lenard Odom, 26.”

At that time, it appeared that a transfer of packages was about to take place. “Investigators then moved in before a transfer could occur and secured the three subjects,” Saucier said.

Three baby powder containers were found that had been emptied out and filled with a combination of “tobacco, marijuana, ecstasy pills, Lortab pills,Maybe you ever meet this situation that you are still struggling in looking for a good men dress facejacket. “Initially, the women were set to meet up with Strahan, and while waiting to meet him the plan changed,” Saucier said. Through further investigation, it was learned that Strahan had a change of plans and wanted Lee to drive to the jail and place the contraband in the back of his pickup truck.

It is believed that Lee called Odom to meet her at the location and drive her to the jail to make the drop off, said Saucier.

“A plan formulated to go ahead and make the drop in his pickup,” Saucier said.

Investigators maintained a constant surveillance on Strahan’s pickup truck, Saucier said.

“At approximately 11 p.m., Strahan exited the jail, where he was working at the time,Double sidedtissuetape General Purpose. and retrieved the package containing contraband out of the back of his truck,” Saucier said.

Strahan walked back to the jail, where investigators left their surveillance posts and placed him under arrest.

Once Strahan was arrested, investigators were able to see the “big picture,” said Saucier.

Strahan was booked and is being held at the Lamar County Correctional Facility for safety reasons, said Saucier.

Sacramento resident Michelle Vithoulkas, 12, took a moment to collect a bead at the bead station. She explained that for every lap completed, she gets a bead. She only had two beads, but was working on more.

Vithoulkas said she is walking for Bill's White Birds. She wanted to attend the event to support her grandmother and the American Cancer Society. She was a little shy, but said the event was nice, and she was proud to support the fundraiser.

Most knitters use wool or other natural fibres. Acrylic, she says, is "awful" to wear and, if people are going to spend time knitting, they want to make something of quality. At some of the treatment facilities, Mary says, it was easier for him to get his hands on drugs than it was in the "outside world".

And in the outside world, it was pretty easy.

"Interestingly enough around the suburbs, there are networks where you can go and get them quite freely and easily," Mary said.

"Interestingly enough, it was older people, females, who were selling them. Which is what I wouldn’t have at that time thought. I wouldn’t have associated it with a female who had young children or anything like that.

"That’s not the first person you think of, but that is one of the places he was getting it from. It was quite readily available, it wasn’t difficult for him to get hold of.

"To pay for them he stole from his grandparents, stole his grandmother’s jewellery. That was a continual situation all the way through."

"...He would get violent at times and it was really, really difficult. And it wasn’t until the last suicide attempt that, I don’t know, it was like something gave way and we actually got him in to [name withheld] clinic.

"And he’s been to a lot of places... and nothing had really made any difference but again, the way they’re treating it I don’t know if it’s the correct way."

Mary is not sure what has this time made a difference to her son, who is on a disability pension which Mary does not think is beneficial for him.

When he was lying in the emergency room in November, she took photographs to show him later and drive home what his family had been confronted with.

But Mary has noticed a change. James had shown little-to-no interest in his children, aged between four and nine. Until now.

She believes it takes a combination of therapy and proper monitoring to pull addicts through, and keeping them under "lock and key" does not help.

Zoos South Australia has announced that the sanctuary will be closed, staff redeployed and animals moved to Adelaide and Monarto zoos, because building a bushfire refuge would cost too much.

"This period accounts for approximately 51 per cent of our accommodation revenue, and on top of the revenue loss associated to the education accommodation, we can no longer absorb the loss nor afford the sizable investment and necessary infrastructure needed to upgrade the existing facilities."
