Edes delivers another wisely crafted performance that catches the audience by surprise. He begins as a pure comic stereotype -- the hysterical and flaming drag queen. But as Edes transforms the character, not only from Albin to Zaza, but into a real person, the audience sees that it’s a lot more than donning a wig and a little more mascara. Beneath the sequins and bluster and broad gestures is a genuine heart.

Once a science-fiction fantasy, three-dimensional printers are popping up everywhere from the desks of home hobbyists to Air Force drone research centers. Cliff Waldman, a senior economist at the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation, a group that promotes the role of manufacturing in global economies,manufactures and sell howo2 trucks, says it's still too soon to know exactly what impact this 3D technology could have on more traditional manufacturing. Ineffective regulators have failed to get to grips with "predatory" lenders who leave vulnerable customers struggling with spiralling debts, according to a damning report by a powerful committee of MPs.

The "shabby end" of the credit market was costing borrowers ￡450 million a year, the Public Accounts Committee said,The powermonitor1 hardware and Power Tool software provide a robust power measurement. but the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) had not taken the tough action needed to protect consumers.

Committee chairwoman Margaret Hodge said the OFT had been "ineffective and timid in the extreme" in tackling the problem.

The MPs called for the requirement to display the annual percentage rate (APR) of interest on credit to be replaced with a clearer statement of the total amount repayable on the loan, to help consumers understand and compare different products.

Mrs Hodge said: "With money getting tighter and banks lending less, consumers are increasingly having to turn to alternative providers of credit. Some of these lenders use predatory techniques to target vulnerable people on low incomes, encouraging them to take out loans which,energymanagement1 when rolled over with extra interest, rapidly become out-of-control debts.

"Such disgraceful practices by the shabby end of the credit market are costing borrowers an estimated ￡450 million or more each year. “The latest quarter — we’ve taken the sample and we’re waiting for the results,” he said. “We won’t add the chloramine until we have to.”

Pilachowski said he has everything he needs to make the change when the time comes.

Opposition to chloramine was motivated by claims about health problems supposedly linked to the chemical in other water systems using it. Pilachowski said he had given the subject some thought, but would not say whether he would exercise his authority unilaterally in the event of a revote. He would say that he thought a revote would be counter-productive.

“The last thing we need is to drag this out for years and a number of votes,” he said. “We need to do this in a united way.”

A recount of Tuesday’s vote is also a possibility.

Costello said the 3.4 percent margin of the vote falls within the 5 percent margin that allows any city voter to request a recount. A request would need to be made to the city clerk with 10 days of the election, the city attorney said.

Teacher to present program for Michelle Obama showcase

A local teacher is heading to Washington this week to give a presentation on how her school uses technology to get kids moving.

Wendy Starwalt, a physical education teacher at Carrie Busey Elementary in Savoy, will give a presentation Friday at Michelle Obama's second Let's Move in School Showcase.

She'll do it with the help of Olympic sprinters Carl Lewis and Tyson Gay and some area students.

The students, like Carrie Busey students, will wear special watches that track their activity. Then, Starwalt can download information about that activity and illustrate it using a special kind of software.

Each watch is called an Active, and it's made by a company called Polar. Starwalt bought 30 watches with grant money from Fuel Up to Play 60, a program sponsored by the National Dairy Council and NFL to encourage students to make healthy choices.

Starwalt rotates the watches to different classes — about 400 children attend Carrie Busey — and they wear them day and night for four days.

"It is a big deal," Starwalt said, when students get the chance to wear them.

Animated figures on the watches indicate what a student is doing, whether it's sitting, standing or moving. On the morning of the fourth day, Starwalt downloads information from the watches and uploads the students' minutes of activity to a virtual program called an Activarium.

Carrie Busey Principal Jeff Scott said his school's use of things like the watches allow Carrie Busey to educate other organizations and schools.

"It's really neat for Carrie Busey to be out in front with this initiative," Scott said, both with the watches, as well as educating students about healthy lifestyles. "It's something we emphasize because we feel it's important for their long-lasting health."
