Rabobank is currently being sued by Michael Rasmussen for 5.8 million Euros for his dismissal during the 2007 Tour de France. The bank said that doping in the sport was its reason for ending its 17-year sponsorship.

"We were shocked at the many details of the USADA report. For us, this has made the glass more than full. Enough is enough. And we are not confident that cycling will improve in the medium term," Rabobank financial director Bert Bruggink said at the time.

UCI to open hotline for doping-related issues

However, the last two quarterly tests showed the levels had dropped below the federal threshold. While Pilachowski has said he does not expect them to stay down, he will not start using chloramine until they come back up.

“The latest quarter — we’ve taken the sample and we’re waiting for the results,” he said. “We won’t add the chloramine until we have to.”

Pilachowski said he has everything he needs to make the change when the time comes.

Opposition to chloramine was motivated by claims about health problems supposedly linked to the chemical in other water systems using it. Pilachowski said he had given the subject some thought, but would not say whether he would exercise his authority unilaterally in the event of a revote. He would say that he thought a revote would be counter-productive.

“The last thing we need is to drag this out for years and a number of votes,” he said. “We need to do this in a united way.”

A recount of Tuesday’s vote is also a possibility.

Costello said the 3.4 percent margin of the vote falls within the 5 percent margin that allows any city voter to request a recount. A request would need to be made to the city clerk with 10 days of the election, the city attorney said.

The Buffalo Niagara region is hosting a series of events next week meant to help prospective entrepreneurs bring their most promising ideas to the marketplace, highlighted by Buffalo’s first Startup Weekend.
